Controversial Statements by Omani Doctor Spark Outrage: Insights from Gaza Podcast

Watan-The Omani doctor Ayman Al-Salami caused widespread anger among Omanis and Arabs after appearing on the podcast “Jalsa Harek” and speaking about the Israeli brutal war against Gaza with what followers described as a “Zionist logic”.

Dr. Ayman Al-Salami had shared photos of himself a few days ago on the X platform, documenting his arrival in Gaza. The Grand Mufti of Oman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, then issued a statement addressing the Omani doctor who had arrived in Rafah city in Gaza to treat Palestinian casualties from the war.

The Omani doctor Ayman Al-Salami, who participated in treating the wounded in Gaza, claimed that “the people of Gaza see the events of October 7 as a real disaster, and the majority hold Hamas responsible and feel regret.”

Al-Salami added in the podcast that the besieged Strip residents “say if this issue hadn’t happened, it would have been better, and they do not communicate with the Palestinian resistance movement.”

Ayman Al-Salami angers Omanis

The Omani doctor Ayman Al-Salami went further when he claimed that “the people of Gaza blame Hamas and there is a minority that supports the operation,” referring to the Operation Quds Flood on October 7, 2024.

Al-Salami mentioned, “I was telling the people of Gaza whom I met that it is important for you to participate with (the resistance) in the battle. You are nearly a million and a half ready to bear arms, and Allah Almighty said: Fighting is prescribed for you.”

He clarified that the responses were varied, and some told him that the resistance had embroiled them in this matter and that the situation was better before.

Criticism of Ayman Al-Salami’s statements

Saad Al-Husseini commented on what Ayman said: “First of all, all appreciation to Dr. Ayman when he rushed as a doctor to treat our brothers in Gaza, and all praise for his humanitarian act. But unfortunately, he should not have entered into politics.”

He continued: “The week he spent in Gaza is not a criterion to know this because there are Zionists who exploit such talk and glorify what the Zionists are doing today in Gaza.”

Meanwhile, Abdel-Monem Al-Kharousi wrote: “O Muslim brother: If you think that the Palestinian resistance made a mistake in 7/10, know that you have fallen into the trap set by the Zionists for you and all Muslims.”

And he added: “I assure you that you do not know the truth of the battle, its dimensions, who is the loser in it, and who is the winner, so leave the analysis to the specialists who are the resistance.”

Mohammed Ali Al-Maashani wished that Dr. Ayman Al-Salami had not gone to Gaza in the first place.

On the same line, Lamia Al-Ghafiri tweeted: “From my point of view, I see that Dr. Ayman Al-Salami did not succeed in this meeting, as he went as a doctor and his humanitarian motive led him there, but after his return, he spoke politically, and there should be a distinction between humanitarian and political work.”
