Israel’s Provocation: David Hearst Sounds Alarm Over Escalating Regional Tensions
David Hearst warns: Israel is dragging the United States into a dangerous regional war."

Watan-The editor-in-chief of the “Middle East Eye” website, British journalist David Hearst, said that Israel is trying to drag the United States into a regional war.

Hearst added in a lengthy article published on the website that if Washington allows Israel to turn Gaza into a giant refugee camp, gradually forcing Palestinians to board boats, an unprecedented existential battle will unfold throughout the region.

When asked, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whether he agreed with the recent “Israel Victory” conference, which called for the mass expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza, he said that his government ministers who attended “have the right to express their opinions.”

Just a few months ago, reports indicated that Ron Dermer, one of his closest aides, was tasked with exploring ways to “reduce” the population of Gaza.

According to the same website, the idea was to bypass the resistance of Egypt, the United States, and Europe to another mass wave of refugees, by opening the sea as a humanitarian gesture.

The Israeli newspaper “Israel Hayom,” which obtained a copy of the plan, claimed: “The phenomenon of refugees in war zones is acceptable.” Tens of millions of refugees have left war zones around the world in just the past decade, from Syria to Ukraine.

The writer pointed out that there is no indication that Netanyahu has abandoned his plan to push large numbers of Palestinians onto boats, and despite numerous tensions in the War Cabinet, the occupying army is resisting these orders.

If there is no convincing plan for the day after the war, it is clear that there is a consensus to keep all of Gaza’s residents entirely in tents, relying on aid controlled solely by Israel.

Famine and Exile

Hearst noted in his article that things are going as planned. After five months of war, 1.1 million people, half the population, have completely depleted their food supplies and are suffering from catastrophic hunger.

This is the largest number of people ever recorded facing catastrophic hunger, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, with famine reaching its peak in the northern provinces of Gaza, where about 300,000 people are still trapped.

He explained that restricting the flow of aid is a policy owned by Knesset members Benny Gantz and Gadi Eizenkot, as well as Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant.

Collective starvation is a tried and tested method to push Palestinians into exile. As often is the case in the history of colonization, Britain attempted it first.

Biden’s Outburst

Away from the heated rhetoric, it was reported that Biden screamed and cursed when he was told in a private meeting at the White House about the decline in polling numbers in Michigan and Georgia due to his handling of the war on Gaza, saying he believed he was doing what was right despite the political fallout.

The report went on to say that the refusal of tribal leaders in Gaza to accept plans for aid distribution under Israeli control, and the formation of a preliminary model for a fishery system, led to a wave of fighting in the northern provinces and another battle at Al-Shifa Hospital.

A Strong Blow to Israel

The tribes formed “Popular Committees” to ensure the delivery of aid convoys to UNRWA distribution centers.

In fact, the convoys were guarded by a variety of factions, including Fatah and Hamas. The delivery operations were highly successful, the first by land in weeks.

But they also dealt a strong blow to Israel – first by showing that Hamas is still active and capable of organizing in the north, and second because it means Israel has temporarily lost control of aid distribution, the main pressure point on the sector.

As a result, the occupation forces targeted the person responsible for coordinating the convoys, the director of police operations, Fa’iq al-Mabhouh, and killed him after besieging him in Al-Shifa Hospital.

This was followed by airstrikes, and on Tuesday, at least 23 Palestinians responsible for securing aid supplies were killed.

According to Hearst, this is entirely irrational for Israel if it is trying to establish a form of civilian control when the war ends.

By declaring war on the tribes that had been trying to negotiate with them for the past five months, Israel is working to unite all of Gaza’s residents behind Palestinian factions.

complications in the situation to the United States

America’s Burden

The British writer attributed complications in the situation to the United States and added that its invasion of Iraq unleashed a series of events that engulfed the entire region in turmoil, significantly expanded Iran’s influence in the Arab world, reignited sectarian divisions, and created numerous quagmires worldwide.

Israel is no longer a strategic asset for the United States and a military partner. It is a seedbed and an incubator and a hearth for a regional war, and today, Israel’s invasion of Gaza is rallying the entire Arab world against Israel.

The Houthis have now become the elite of the Arabs throughout the Middle East because of their campaign against Western ships in the Red Sea. But U.S. policy is still led by Netanyahu.

The writer concluded his report by saying that if Biden follows Israel down this path, he will lose the next election. The anger among Arab Americans is off the charts. But this has no significant strategic consequences, as the Democratic president has acted extremely poorly.
