Oman's representative at the United Nations warns of a dangerous escalation stage in Gaza

Watan-The Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Idris bin Abdulrahman Al-Khunji, warned of what he described as a dangerous escalation stage taking place in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Al-Khunji stated in a statement delivered at the 55th session of the Human Rights Council that it is essential to move beyond the state of silence and work seriously to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and stop the ongoing genocide in Gaza, as well as to halt the supply of weapons to the occupation.

The Omani official added that the Sultanate of Oman calls for the use of all political pressure means and economic sanctions against the Israeli occupation, as reported by the Oman News Agency.

Statements from Oman’s representative regarding Gaza

The Omani delegate to the United Nations emphasized the necessity of establishing a mechanism to compensate Palestinians in proportion to the destruction, killing, and harm caused by “Israel” through its aggression against civilians.

He continued: “The Sultanate of Oman strongly condemns the war crimes and genocide committed by the occupation in Gaza, and calls for commitment to implementing the Security Council resolution calling for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza.”

Omani warning of an escalation stage

Oman warned of what it described as an escalating stage in the Gaza Strip, a dangerous precedent to an ongoing process for 70 years, represented by the tragedy of Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, which could have been stopped if the efforts of the world had united.

Idris bin Abdulrahman Al-Khunji, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, described the situation in Gaza as a major crime that raises questions about the human rights system witnessing some of the worst violations in history.

The Israeli occupation continues its brutal war against the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, despite the issuance of a Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire during Ramadan, and despite the first appearance of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”

The Omani News Agency reported a phone call between Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi and his counterpart in the Palestinian Authority, Riyad Al-Maliki.

According to the agency, “Both sides discussed the tragic circumstances experienced by the Gaza Strip due to the unlawful occupation of Palestine and the brutal aggression by Israel against the Gaza Strip.”
