Israeli plan to establish a buffer zone with the Gaza Strip that would uproot 16% of the Strip's territory.

Watan-The Hebrew newspaper “Haaretz” published a report stating that the Israeli army continues to establish a buffer zone with the Gaza Strip on the Palestinian side of the border fence, covering 16% of the territory of the Strip.

The newspaper mentioned that the zone is being constructed near the border fence from Beit Lahia in the north to Kerem Shalom in the south.

It added that the width of the buffer zone extends about a kilometer into Gaza and will constitute 16% of the total area of the Strip upon completion.

Establishment of an access corridor

The Israeli army is also working on completing the construction of an access corridor that separates the northern Gaza Strip from its center and south.

The newspaper did not provide further details about the nature of the buffer zone.

Demolition of hundreds of buildings

Earlier reports indicated that the Israeli army demolished 1,100 buildings near the border inside the Gaza Strip.

The “Financial Times” reported that the Israeli army is working to establish a buffer zone within Gaza and demolish buildings near the border.

It added that Israel is proceeding with these actions despite warnings from the United States against any long-term reduction of the Gaza territory.
