Hamas Leader Clarifies Status of Negotiations in Cairo Amid Gaza War
Osama Hamdan, a member of the Political Bureau of Hamas

Watan-Hamas leader Osama Hamdan confirmed in an interview with Al Jazeera that there is no talk at the moment about any new round of negotiations after news of the arrival of the Israeli delegation to Cairo to discuss the exchange deal.

Hamdan said in an interview with Al Jazeera Qatar that there is no truth to holding a new round of negotiations, following reports that the Israeli delegation would arrive in Cairo this evening to discuss the exchange deal and that the occupation did not offer any commitments in its responses.

The Palestinian leader mentioned that his responses were an attempt to stall regarding the key points that Hamas wants answers to.

According to the Palestinian leader, Hamas is seeking:

  • Ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
  • Return of displaced persons to the north and reconstruction of the sector.

Osama Hamdan pointed out that the continued stubbornness of the occupation means that the efforts of Egyptian and Qatari mediators will face a dead end, according to him.

The occupation wants only to retrieve its captives and continue to occupy Gaza openly, with the American position contributing to covering the Israeli stubbornness.

It is worth mentioning that the Palestinian resistance has confirmed that the basic principles on which its negotiating file is based, presented to the mediators in Egypt and Qatar, are based on five main points:

  • Ceasefire.
  • Unconditional return of displaced persons.
  • Withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army from Gaza.
  • Entry of aid and relief materials.
  • Reconstruction.

Osama Hamdan Denies Reports of New Talks as Israeli Delegation Arrives in Egypt for Exchange Deal Discussions

The Israeli occupation had rejected Hamas’ proposal, which included releasing 30 life-sentenced prisoners in exchange for each female soldier, and offered, in return, to release only 5 individuals to be identified by them.

The last round of negotiations was held in Doha and lasted for about two weeks to reach a deal between Hamas and the occupation, but it did not lead to results despite Washington expressing optimism about the talks.
