The Rise of Mahmoud al-Sisi: Unraveling Egypt’s Intelligence Dynamics

Watan-The influence of the son of the Egyptian President, Mahmoud al-Sisi, has been growing at the expense of “Abbas Kamel,” the man who has long been considered his father’s confidant and companion.

A report from the opposition platform “Rassd” pointed out that al-Sisi’s son has become the effective controller of the General Intelligence Directorate, amidst unprecedented marginalization of Abbas Kamel, who nominally heads the agency.

The report added, “Abbas Kamel now only governs his small office within the intelligence apparatus, while Mahmoud al-Sisi has become the ultimate authority and wielder of absolute power and influence within the agency.”

The son of al-Sisi’s influence has extended to all branches of the agency, becoming responsible for direct communication with the state’s security and military apparatus. He now holds the first and final say within the agency.

The illustrated report further stated that Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has assigned his son the responsibility for the “Israel file” within the intelligence apparatus.

Mahmoud al-Sisi is credited – according to the source – for the influence enjoyed by the Sinai businessman “Ibrahim Al-Arjani.”

Mahmoud is also behind the levies imposed on Palestinians for entry into Egypt or for medical treatment to exit Gaza via the Rafah crossing.

Green Light

Opposition journalist “Osama Gawish” stated in a media intervention that Ibrahim Al-Arjani and his company “Hala” received a green light from a sovereign entity, revealing that Mahmoud Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, a major in the General Intelligence Directorate, supports him directly, being a direct partner with Ibrahim Al-Arjani in this company.

Fears and Suspicions

Mahmoud is not the only one of al-Sisi’s sons in the General Intelligence Directorate, as his son Hussein was appointed there immediately upon his assumption of power. It appears that al-Sisi’s fear and constant suspicion of those around him have led him to rely on his sons to control the General Intelligence Directorate.

Additionally, he has sought the assistance of his son Mustafa within the Administrative Control Authority, despite his claims that he does not favor nepotism and considers it an unacceptable interference, according to his alleged statements.
