Watan-In an escalation indicative of the tension prevailing in the troubled Israeli society these days, violent clashes erupted in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening between protesters and elements of the occupation police.

These protests resulted in the injury of an Israeli police officer in the face after receiving a punch from one of the protesters, while a car driver ran over a number of Israeli protesters, resulting in the injury of 3 demonstrators, including a 50-year-old woman.

Images circulated showed the Israeli policewoman sitting on the ground with her face bleeding around the mouth and nose.

In a video clip, a state of chaos was evident in the protest square, with injured individuals seen receiving assistance from others on the ground.

Members of the occupation police were seen escorting a person to their private vehicle amidst screams and protests at the scene.

According to Hebrew media outlets, a stormy protest against the government and demanding the release of detainees took place on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening.

Later on, the protest, which began and ended legally, escalated into an illegal demonstration and confrontation with the police.

The Hebrew website “Kikar” reported that the police arrested one of the protesters who was setting fires during the protest. A policewoman was also injured by the grip of one of the protesters.

Car runs over protesters

At one stage of the protest, a car driver arrived and started running over the protesters. Four people were injured due to the stampede, with one of them in critical condition. The occupation police arrested the speeding driver.

According to Israeli occupation authorities, the police deployed large forces to maintain security and preserve public order
