New American Proposal for Gaza Ceasefire: Details and Implications

Watan-Palestinian sources revealed details of a new proposal presented by the United States to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

A source familiar with the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza stated that the new American proposal consists of three stages. In the first stage, 900 Palestinian prisoners, including 100 with high sentences, would be released in exchange for Israeli civilian prisoners.

The source further explained to Anadolu Agency that the first stage of the proposal includes the return of civilian displaced persons to the northern part of the Gaza Strip, on the condition that they return to internationally established shelter camps rather than to their residential areas.

In a related context, informed sources informed Al Jazeera that the proposal includes the return of unarmed civilian displaced persons to the northern part of the Gaza Strip without specifying their numbers. Additionally, the proposal includes Israel’s acceptance of opening the Rashid and Salah al-Din streets and stationing its forces 500 meters away from them.

Regarding the return of unarmed civilian displaced persons to the northern part of the Gaza Strip without specifying their numbers, the American proposal included the return of unarmed civilian displaced persons to the northern part of the Gaza Strip without specifying their numbers. According to the sources, the proposal also involves the entry of 500 aid trucks daily into the Gaza Strip, including the northern area.

As for the second stage, the sources revealed that it involves the release of all Israeli prisoners and concluding negotiations for a sustainable ceasefire.

The proposal did not specify the number of Palestinian prisoners to be released in the second stage or Israel’s withdrawal. The sources stated that the proposal includes the release of 40 living Israeli prisoners from all categories in the first stage.

American seriousness

White House spokesperson John Kirby had earlier stated that the United States takes the negotiations seriously and hopes to reach an agreement to release prisoners as soon as possible because it would also lead to a ceasefire for approximately six weeks.

He added that more than 300 aid trucks entered Gaza on Sunday, but the White House will continue to pressure Israel to allow more humanitarian aid supplies into the Palestinian territory.
