Watan-A young man stabbed the Iraqi-Australian bishop ‘Mar Marry Emmanuel’ during a religious sermon without knowing the reasons and motives so far.
This incident comes two days after a fatal stabbing attack in a crowded shopping center in Sydney, and the Australian police said they arrested a man suspected of stabbing several people during a mass at a church in a western suburb of the city.
According to the British newspaper “Telegraph,” quoting the police, Bishop “Mar Marry Emmanuel,” who has a large number of followers on social media, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The moment of stabbing the bishop, Mar Marry
The live broadcast showed a service at the Good Shepherd Christ Church in Wacol, Australia, where Bishop “Mar Marry Emmanuel” was delivering a sermon in front of a number of worshipers inside what appeared to be a church.
A young man approached the platform and began stabbing the bishop with a knife he had in his hand on his head and neck several times before several people pushed him away, and screams and shouts from others in the church could be heard.
According to the “nytimes,” the New South Wales Police Force said in a statement that the police operation began after 7:10 PM local time on Monday. The police said, “Several people were stabbed.”
However, none of them suffered life-threatening injuries. The Australian media reported that there were four victims, including the religious figure Bishop Mar Marry.
Disturbing scenes tonight in Wakeley tonight.
I have received a briefing from the Commissioner of Police and NSW Health on the situation.
My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and first responders who are working to keep us safe.

What is the nationality of the attacker of Bishop Mar Marry?
A video clip showed several people restraining the attacker, who was said to be of Lebanese nationality, without official confirmation of this information.
He appeared to be smiling as activists pointed out that he was suffering from a mental disorder, and the police said they had taken the man they arrested to an undisclosed location.
Chris Minns, the Prime Minister of New South Wales, said on social media, “I have called for a meeting of religious leaders in western Sydney following the stabbing incident at the church.”
And it was written on X’s website: “Disturbing scenes tonight in Wacol. All community leaders unanimously supported and endorsed condemning violence in any form.”

Bishop Mar Marry, supporter of Gaza
Bishop Emmanuel belongs to an extremely conservative sect of the Assyrian Orthodox religion. He is known for broadcasting his sermons live on the internet.
The stabbed bishop is known for his support for Gaza and his sympathy with its people, appearing in speeches talking about them, their visits to them, and he has strong sermons criticizing deviation and the legalization of deviation. He is the first Assyrian figure to achieve 1.3 billion views for religious sermons on social media platforms (TikTok, Facebook, YouTube).
Bishop Mar Marry Emmanuel was ordained as the bishop of the Ancient Eastern Church in Sydney in 2010, and he is of Iraqi origin.
Shortly after the attack, videos began circulating online of a large group of people protesting outside the church, described by the Sydney Morning Herald as “almost riotous.”
The police force said in a statement that by 1:00 AM local time, order had been restored and the police operation had ended.
The police said two officers were injured and police vehicles were damaged.
They said one officer was hit with a metal object and suffered a “twisted knee and broken teeth,” while another officer suffered a broken jaw after being hit with a stone and a piece of fence.
