Houthi Leader Accuses British Prime Minister of Responsibility for Romyar Ship Sinking
Watan-The prominent leader of the Houthi group, Ansar Allah, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, stated that he holds British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his government responsible for the sinking of the British-owned cargo ship Romyar.
Al-Houthi wrote on his account on the “X” platform: “We say to Sunak, you and your government bear responsibility for the ship Romyar and the responsibility of supporting the extermination and siege in the Gaza war.”
He added: “You have the opportunity to salvage the ship Romyar by sending a guarantee letter signed by George Gallaway to deliver the agreed-upon relief trucks to Gaza at that time.”
The Houthi group had previously targeted the ship, which was carrying flammable fertilizers, with a number of naval missiles on February 18th of last year.

The sinking of the Romyar ship
The crisis cell affiliated with the internationally recognized Yemeni government announced the sinking of the British cargo ship “MV Romyar” off the coast of Aden Gulf.
The crisis cell expressed its regret for the sinking of the ship coinciding with the severe weather conditions and winds in the Red Sea.
Environmental disaster
It pointed out that its sinking would cause an environmental disaster in Yemeni regional waters and the Red Sea, due to its containment of thousands of tons of non-organic fertilizers and fuel, according to international warnings.
It clarified that the sinking of the “MV Romyar” ship was expected due to leaving the ship – which is about 16 miles away from the Yemeni coast – to its fate for more than 12 days and not responding to the Yemeni government’s pleas to avoid the disaster.
The Yemeni government renewed its call on all concerned countries and regional and international organizations to urgently act to save the Red Sea from an imminent environmental disaster, after 12 days had passed since the ship “Romyar” – which flies the flag of Belize and is managed by a Lebanese company – tilted as a result of being targeted by the Houthis.
