Unearthing Atrocities: Mass Grave Discovered in Gaza’s Al-Shifa Medical Complex
Watan-The revelation of a mass grave in the courtyard of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in the city of Gaza has sparked anger over the worsening crimes committed by the Israeli occupation army.
The media office in Gaza announced the discovery of a mass grave of Palestinians buried by the occupation army in the courtyard of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, west of Gaza City, during its military operation at the hospital.
The governmental media office released recorded footage of the mass grave discovered in the international courtyard of the Al-Shifa hospital, containing the bodies of Palestinian martyrs executed by the occupation army and buried there during its military operations at the hospital, which lasted for two weeks at the end of last March.
There is growing anger over the international silence regarding the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation army, compared to attitudes in other conflict zones.
“What if this happened in Ukraine?” Gill Dever, a lawyer at the International Criminal Court, was asked about the reaction if the images of the mass grave were from another country, like Ukraine.
Dever responded in an interview with Al Jazeera that if these images were from Ukraine, immediate sanctions would have been imposed on Russia, and arrest warrants would have been issued immediately.
He explained that there is a double standard and hypocrisy regarding what is happening in Gaza, stating, “In Europe, and in France, many people and judges no longer tolerate these double standards.”
He emphasized that dealing with these double standards is unacceptable, noting that when a girl was injured as a result of the Iranian attack on Israel, everyone talked about her, while there are Palestinian martyrs whom no one speaks about.
Details of the discovery of the mass grave
A member of the Health Emergency Committee at the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Moatasem Salah, stated that the first mass grave was discovered in the Al-Shifa Medical Complex after finding a number of bodies buried in front of the reception area of the complex (in the front courtyard of the hospital).
Salah added that the bodies found were partly decomposed, some were in pieces, and some belonged to women.
He explained that these bodies are being dealt with by a joint committee including the Ministries of Health and Justice, the Forensic Evidence Department, and the Medical Services of the Palestinian Ministry of Interior.

Execution then irregular burial
In a related context, medical sources said that the bodies of individuals retrieved from the grave were executed by the occupation army and irregularly buried in the front hospital courtyard.

The relevant authorities continue the search for bodies within this mass grave and in other areas of Al-Shifa Hospital and its surroundings, and at the present time, it is not possible to determine the exact number of bodies buried there.
