Watan-The Anadolu Agency quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan as saying that some Western countries are ready to accept the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders and to transform the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) into a political party after dismantling its armed wing, the “Al-Qassam Brigades,” in order to reach this state.
This came during a meeting between Fidan and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who, in turn, emphasized that some parties are trying to exploit Qatari mediation to achieve narrow political gains and engage in election propaganda.
Turning Hamas into a political party
The Turkish foreign minister, often described as a potential successor to Erdogan, said that some Western countries want a two-state solution but have doubts about Hamas, especially in light of Israeli propaganda that seeks to portray the movement as similar to the Islamic State organization “ISIS.”
Responding to a question about the content of the discussion between him and Hamas’s political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh before the conference, Fidan said that his country is discussing the two-state solution with some Western countries that accept the existence of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders “and the transformation of Hamas into a political party and the dissolution of its military wing (Al-Qassam Brigades), and this is a significant appeal to the world,” according to him.
The Turkish minister explained that there is intensive Turkish-Qatari communication, where the two countries are making great efforts to achieve a ceasefire and reach a two-state solution.

There has been no official comment from Hamas so far on this matter, and what Hakan Fidan said, and his talk about the possibility of Hamas taking this step of dismantling its armed wing “Al-Qassam Brigades,” which is currently inflicting heavy losses on the occupation in Gaza.
Doha refuses misuse of its mediation by some For his part, Mohammed Al Thani emphasized Doha’s rejection of “the misuse of its mediation for narrow political purposes by some,” confirming that Qatar “is currently reassessing this mediation fully and accurately.”
He said that Qatar has stated from the beginning that it will contribute positively to the negotiations and bridging the gap between the parties, noting that “the issue has taken months because the differences are wide.”
Al Thani affirmed, “We are acting as a mediator with the United States and Egypt to present constructive proposals, because the mediator’s role is limited and cannot offer things that the crisis parties reject.”
He pointed out that the negotiations are going through a sensitive and delicate stage and must result in a cessation of hostilities and the release of hostages, adding, “Unfortunately, we found misuse of our mediation and its use to serve narrow political interests, which prompted us to reassess this mediation accurately and evaluate the engagement of the parties in it.”
Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman explained that there is misuse of Qatar’s role in mediation, and “we reject this misuse.”

He added, clarifying: “We engaged in mediation from a humanitarian, national, and patriotic standpoint to protect our Palestinian brothers, but we found some politicians trying to use mediation in their election campaigns.”
He pointed out that “some parties speak in closed rooms in one way and then come out to speak in another way, and this is unacceptable,” adding, “We seek to play a constructive role in this crisis, and we have limits to playing a constructive role, and we will make the appropriate decision at the appropriate time.”
