Tense Exchange Between Netanyahu and German Foreign Minister Baerbock Over Gaza Situation

Watan-Israeli media revealed details of what they described as a “tough” conversation between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

Israeli Channel 13 reported that the conversation between Netanyahu and Baerbock regarding the situation in Gaza escalated to harsh tones.

The German Foreign Minister’s tone reportedly intensified after Netanyahu presented pictures he claimed showed that life in Gaza was “perfectly normal” and that reports of famine in the region were false.

In response, the German Minister said, “I advise against continuing to display these images because they do not depict the real situation in Gaza… There is hunger in Gaza.”

Netanyahu raised his voice, saying, “This is real… It’s the truth… We are not like the Nazis who created fake images of virtual reality.”

In response to his outburst, the German Minister asked, “Do you want to say that our doctors in Gaza are not telling the truth? Do you want to say that international media are lying?”

At the end of the conversation, the Minister urged for more aid to be allowed into the Gaza Strip.

German Response

In contrast, the German Foreign Ministry described these reports as “misleading.” They wrote on the “X” platform that the main points mentioned in these reports about the meeting between Baerbock and Netanyahu for an hour were “incorrect.”

At the end of the meeting of foreign ministers of the G7 major industrialized countries, the German Foreign Minister said that the German Ambassador to Israel, Stefan Zaybert, had been in contact with the Israeli Prime Minister’s team and clarified Germany’s position on what she called “distorted publications” in response to a question from a journalist about whether she had discussed this incident with Netanyahu.

Baerbock said, “We do not comment on secret conversations. My ministry and the German ambassador in Israel have commented on this matter. We have been expressed regret about the publication whose source has not yet been clarified, and we have nothing to add.”
