Turkish President Erdoğan Holds Historic Meeting with Hamas Leader Haniyeh in Istanbul

Watan-The Turkish Presidency broadcasted today, Saturday, images documenting the meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the head of the political bureau of Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh, in Istanbul.

According to the statement from the Presidency, Erdoğan met Haniyeh and the Hamas delegation at the Presidential Office in Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul.

According to Turkish media, President Erdoğan discussed the developments in the Gaza Strip with Ismail Haniyeh and the Hamas delegation during their reception in Istanbul on Saturday.

The Turkish President emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire as a means to “stop Israeli injustice in Gaza,” calling for the continuous and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The Israeli attacks on Palestinian territories, especially Gaza, and the necessity of allowing sufficient and continuous access to humanitarian aid to Gaza were also discussed.

Erdoğan affirmed Turkey’s continued diplomatic efforts to draw international attention to the brutality faced by Palestinians.

It is worth mentioning that this marks the first official announced meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the head of the political bureau of Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh.

Turkish media published images from the Gaza Summit held at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, chaired by Erdoğan, with the participation of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Chief of the General Intelligence Directorate İbrahim Kalın, along with the head of the political bureau of Hamas movement Ismail Haniyeh and his accompanying delegation.
