Unveiling Netanyahu’s Health: Calls for Transparency Amidst Growing Concerns
Watan-The Supreme Court in Israel has received a request to compel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of the occupation government, to share a detailed health report and designate an alternative in case of his inability to perform his duties, amid numerous and ongoing reports surrounding his health.
The request was submitted by a group of survivors of the Al-Aqsa flood operation carried out by the Palestinian resistance on October 7th last year, along with medical specialists, scientists, and a member of the Knesset, according to the Times of Israel.
The court request states that Netanyahu has not followed the protocols requiring him to disclose his physical and mental health for years. The 74-year-old Netanyahu did not publish an annual health report for the period from 2016 to 2023 when he received a clean bill of health.
However, the requestors argue that the two letters published by the general practitioner and the cardiologist to Netanyahu are overly vague. The request emphasizes that the letters should mention when the Prime Minister last underwent medical examinations, what tests were conducted and their results, whether he suffers from any diseases or chronic conditions, and whether he takes medications regularly—including those for psychological or sleep-related reasons.
Netanyahu’s Health Scrutiny
The Prime Minister’s health has been under scrutiny since July, when he underwent surgery to implant a pacemaker after fainting at his home in Caesarea.
The public was not informed about the chronic heart condition Netanyahu suffers from, referred to as “transient heart siege,” until after the surgery. Additionally, Netanyahu did not reveal that he fainted before the pacemaker implantation, nor did he disclose a history of electrical rhythm issues in the heart.
It’s worth noting that in October 2022, Netanyahu felt unwell during prayer near the end of Yom Kippur and underwent a series of tests at the Sheba Medical Center, indicating that his health was normal.
His health made headlines again last week when his office announced that he had the flu, leading to the cancellation of meetings related to the Gaza war.
In 2010, the Prime Minister’s office developed protocols for disclosing the health of the head of government, but these protocols are not legally binding.
Concerning Behaviors of Netanyahu
The requestors allege that the Prime Minister has exhibited several behaviors of concern that indicate undisclosed health problems. Among these issues are “drooping eyelids, stiffness in his body, significant swelling on the right side of his face, and dark spots on his forehead and other areas of his face.”
The request also mentions several instances where Netanyahu’s right arm appeared “stiff” or abnormal, accusing him of attempting to conceal it. Additionally, his wife, Sara, was accused of holding his arm to hide its condition while standing next to him.
