Unveiling Resilience: Decoding the Symbolism of Abu Ubaida’s Appearance

Watan-Activists on social media have been circulating clips since Tuesday of the speech given by “Abu Ubaida,” the spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, after 200 days since the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. The physical transformation that occurred due to the siege and starvation is highlighted.

Abu Ubaida appeared with a more emaciated physical structure due to the Israeli siege and the prevention of aid from entering for months. Despite this, the spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades appeared resilient and defiant, confusing the occupation with his appearance and turning the Israeli street against Netanyahu’s government.

Abu Ubaida became a well-known figure after the commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades, Mohammed al-Deif, announced the start of the “Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa,” the name given by Hamas to the attacks launched on Israel on October 7th last year.

Regarding the physical change that the psychological warfare commander against Israel, as activists call him, underwent, the Palestinian writer “Adham Sharqawi” commented in a tweet on his “X”-Twitter account: “The body withers, but the will intensifies. Your voice does not silence, nor have we been deprived of your presence.”

“A transformation in the body is unmatched except by an intensification of strength,”

Reactions and comments on the images of Abu Ubaida varied among users of the “X” social media platforms. “Saeed Ziyad” commented: “The appearance of Abu Ubaida in his recent speech indicates the extent of the attachment of this leadership to its ranks and its people.”

He continued: “Not only in terms of killing, fighting, and danger, but even in sharing crumbs of dry bread made from animal feed.”

Ziyad added, “A transformation in the body is unmatched except by an intensification of strength and a firm stance, and a stronger belief in the idea, the cause, and the project.”

“Samira” added: “Body fat comes and goes, but the heart remains, and the soul clings to the love of its Creator. O Lord, protect them from all evil and honor them, for their victory is Your victory, O Mighty, O Firm, O Beloved, O Lord.”

A user named “Nouran” said: “Between October 9th and April 23rd, Abu Ubaida changed significantly,” referring to the clear difference in Abu Ubaida’s appearance.
