Watan-Al Jazeera aired exclusive footage on Monday, April 29, 2024, revealing recent scenes where fighters from the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, booby-trapped a tunnel before an Israeli force entered it and detonated it, seizing equipment and weapons from the killed and wounded soldiers.
The images showed Al-Qassam fighters using “glove” devices, first used during the Al-Aqsa Deluge.
It appears that the booby-trapped tunnel had a specific function, to explode on Israeli occupation soldiers, as Al-Qassam fighters planned for it to become an ambush.
As the seventh month of the devastating Israeli war on Gaza draws to a close, the Al-Qassam Brigades increasingly rely on ambushes, demonstrating an ability to adapt to changes in the battlefield.
A leader in Al-Qassam told Al Jazeera that preparing ambushes necessarily requires expertise in handling explosives and adapting available combat means to fit the operational theater.
The success of an ambush requires precise intelligence efforts to understand the adversary’s methods and routes.
How are ambushes built?
According to the Al-Qassam leader, ambushes are built in three stages:
First: luring the enemy into the ambush area, requiring the ability to discern the actions and reactions of the opposing force.
Second: camouflaging and concealing the engineering work to avoid detection.
Third: awaiting the opportune moment in the most accurate location to activate the ambush.
A few weeks ago, the Al-Qassam Brigades revealed details of the glove device for the first time.
The Al-Qassam leader described it as an anti-personnel device that disperses its fragments circularly to achieve the highest possible injury rates.
On Monday evening, April 29, 2024, the Israeli occupation army admitted to the killing of two officers in an ambush executed by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas, in the town of Al-Mughraqa in central Gaza, on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
On Sunday evening, the Israeli website “Rotter” reported that three Israeli soldiers were killed, while 11 others were injured in an explosive device blast in Gaza.
The Al-Qassam Brigades announced that their fighters lured an Israeli force and trapped it in a mine ambush on Railway Street in the Al-Mughraqa area in central Gaza.
Al-Qassam highlighted the use of explosive devices and F-16 missiles by its fighters in the ambush, which had been fired at civilians but did not explode.
