Watan-An Egyptian source revealed that the team responsible for mediation between Hamas and the Israeli government has received inquiries from Washington regarding the fate of Israeli soldier Aidan Alexander, who holds American citizenship, following an announcement by Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, on Tuesday. Abu Obeida stated that they had lost contact with the group holding the soldier after an Israeli airstrike targeted their location in Gaza.

In a statement on Telegram, Abu Obeida said, “We announce that we have lost contact with the group holding soldier Aidan Alexander after a direct bombing targeted their location, and we are still trying to reach them.” He added, “Our estimates are that the Israeli army is deliberately trying to eliminate the pressure of the dual-national prisoner issue in order to continue its genocidal war against our people.”

In a statement on Telegram, Abu Obeida said, “We announce that we have lost contact with the group holding soldier Aidan Alexander after a direct bombing targeted their location, and we are still trying to reach them.” He added, “Our estimates are that the Israeli army is deliberately trying to eliminate the pressure of the dual-national prisoner issue in order to continue its genocidal war against our people.”

According to the Egyptian source, U.S. officials from the team of Middle East envoy Steve Wheatcroft reached out to Egyptian security officials on Tuesday evening after Abu Obeida’s announcement. They discussed the truth of the statement made by the Al-Qassam spokesperson and the U.S. side asked the Egyptian mediator to contact Hamas leadership to ascertain the soldier’s fate and gather information on his condition.

The source added that the U.S. requested detailed information about the soldier’s location if the incident was confirmed, to facilitate his rescue. The Egyptian officials noted the difficulty in acquiring such details, as it would be a security threat to resistance members in the area. However, they assured they would relay the message to Hamas leadership to gather information on the soldier’s condition.

Meanwhile, a Hamas leader confirmed that they had received calls from the Egyptian mediator regarding the announcement by the Al-Qassam Brigades. The leader emphasized that Hamas had repeatedly stated that the policies pursued by the U.S. administration and the Israeli government would only lead to the demise of the prisoners. The leader also stressed that the movement could not accept the current proposal, viewing it as an attempt to remove the issue of prisoners and continue to devastate Gaza.

The Al-Qassam Brigades had aired a video on Saturday showing the Israeli soldier Aidan Alexander, who holds U.S. citizenship. In the video, he expressed disappointment with promises of his release and revealed that Israeli bombing had been very close to his location.
