Unseen Perils: Booby-Trapped Remnants in Palestinian Homes
Palestinian home destruction

Watan-The occupying army deliberately expanded the scale of its attacks during its war on the Gaza Strip in order to cause the largest possible number of martyrs and casualties.

In a serious threat that continues to haunt Palestinians even after the war ends, the occupying army deliberately left behind booby-trapped remnants in the homes of civilians in the Gaza Strip.

The Gaza government stated that the occupying army did this to increase the numbers of martyrs and casualties, urging the international community to provide the necessary assistance to the Gaza Strip to deal with these remnants and remove their danger.

Urgent Warning

The Gaza government’s media office stated in a release: “We warn against the recurrence of incidents involving the explosion of remnants left by the occupying army in the homes of citizens in the Gaza Strip, especially those in the form of canned goods.”

The office pointed out that many citizens have been injured as a result of the explosion of such booby-trapped cans, the latest being 14-year-old Mohammad Yasser Samour, who was critically wounded in the Zanna area of Khan Yunis city in the southern Gaza Strip.

Samour was searching for his personal belongings inside his shelled home and found canned food from the remnants of the occupation, which he opened, causing it to explode, resulting in the amputation of some of his limbs and injuries to others with him.

The office condemned the crime of the occupation deliberately booby-trapping the remnants it leaves behind.

The statement said: “As if the occupation were not content with killing our people directly through direct shelling, it resorts to the trick of booby-trapped cans to increase the numbers of martyrs and casualties, especially among children who cannot distinguish these remnants.”

According to UN estimates confirmed by reports from relevant government agencies, about 10% of the shells and bombs dropped by the occupying army, estimated at more than 75,000 tons of explosives, did not explode.

It added: “This means that there are about 7,500 tons of shells and bombs in the streets, lands, homes, and rubble in various areas of the Gaza Strip.”

It warned that this represents a severe danger that will not end even with the end of the aggression unless they are removed and the danger of their explosion is neutralized.

Urgent Call to the People of the Strip

The office called on the people of Gaza not to tamper with such remnants and to pay close attention to what the occupying army leaves behind in terms of canned food, and to communicate with civil defense teams and explosives engineering authorities to deal with them.

The office also called on the international community to deploy specialized engineering teams and explosives experts and provide local authorities in the Strip with the necessary technical capabilities to deal with these remnants and remove their danger from citizens.

The war on Gaza continues

Since October 7th of last year, the Israeli occupying army has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of civilian casualties, mostly children and women.

The war has caused an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure, leading Tel Aviv to stand trial before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide. Israel continues its war on Gaza despite a resolution from the UN Security Council to immediately cease fire.
