Yemen's Houthi Group Targets Ships En Route to Israeli Ports

Watan-The Houthi group in Yemen has presented scenes of its targeting of a ship in the Red Sea heading towards Israeli ports, using a drone.

The group announced late Monday targeting two American warships and the ship CYCLADES in the Red Sea, as well as an Israeli ship in the Indian Ocean.

The Houthi military media released a video showing “scenes of targeting the ship CYCLADES with a drone, which was heading towards the occupied Palestinian ports in the Red Sea,” showing the moment of launching the drone.

Subsequent footage (taken from the drone) showed how the drone directly targeted the ship, with sounds of takbir (Allahu Akbar) heard in the background of the video.

Joint Operation

The Houthi group said in a statement issued by its military spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, on his “X” account, that the Yemeni armed forces carried out a victory for the Palestinian people’s injustice, and in response to the American-British aggression on our country, military operations against hostile warships in the Red Sea, including targeting two American warships, were carried out successfully using a number of drones.

The statement added that “the naval forces, rocket force, and unmanned aerial force in the armed forces carried out a joint operation targeting a ship in the Red Sea, and the targeting was precise by the grace of God,” according to Saree’s statement.

According to the statement published in both Arabic and English, the targeting of the ship came after its violation of the decision to ban the passage of ships heading to the ports of occupied Palestine, by redirecting it to the port of Um Al-Rishash on April 21, in a deceptive and camouflage manner by claiming its direction to another port.

However, it was under surveillance and monitoring by our armed forces, and warnings were directed to it not to enter the ports of occupied Palestine. It insisted on violating the ban decision, so it became on the list of targeted ships and prohibited from sailing in the area of operations of the Yemeni armed forces.

Houthi Strikes

The Houthis have been launching attacks since November in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, claiming solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid the war between Israel and Hamas.

In response, the United States and its allies formed a military force to deal with Houthi strikes. American and British aircraft have carried out several strikes on various areas in Yemen, while the US military conducts missions separately from any naval alliance in the region.

In turn, the US Central Command said Monday that it also destroyed a Houthi drone flying towards an American navy destroyer and a ship belonging to the American navy in the Red Sea.

The US Central Command said in a statement posted on its “X” account on Twitter: “It was decided that the drone represented an imminent threat to the United States, the alliance, and commercial ships in the region.”
