Watan-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu caused outrage and condemnation among Moroccans during a televised interview when he appeared holding a picture that showed the disputed Sahara region between Morocco and the Polisario Front separated from the map of Morocco.
Netanyahu appeared in an interview broadcast on Thursday evening on the French official channels “LCI” and “TF1”.
He was seen holding a map of the Middle East and North Africa in which Morocco was depicted without the Sahara region.
This incident sparked anger and frustration among social media users, who condemned these Israeli actions.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Netanyahu has provoked Moroccans’ feelings. Previously, a map of Morocco missing the Sahara was seen during his reception of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Last July, Israel announced its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara territories in a message sent by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Moroccan King.
Morocco controls 80% of the Western Sahara territories and proposes granting it autonomy under its sovereignty, while the Polisario Front calls for a referendum on self-determination.
