Watan-The Egyptian media personality Bassem Youssef launched a fierce attack on the British media personality Piers Morgan.
During his attendance at a seminar on the sidelines of the “Arab Media Forum,” Bassem Youssef said: “I don’t know why people care that Piers Morgan changes his opinion. He is a man who seeks trends and increasing viewership, as he hosts people and sits with them to raise viewership numbers. His opinion is not important at all because he only cares about what is trending and what people will talk about! So, it doesn’t matter that he changed his opinion.”
He added: “Piers is a man who has a media platform on which we appear to convey our ideas to his viewers, nothing more. As for caring about changing his opinion, that is only from our emotional side.”
Previous Debate
Bassem Youssef had previously engaged in a media debate with Piers Morgan at the beginning of the Gaza events, during which he launched a satirical attack on the Western media that supports the occupation by fabricating falsehoods about what was happening in the Gaza Strip at the time.
Attack on Bassem Youssef
In other statements, Bassem Youssef said that he has been facing attacks against him in various forms for 15 years and is accused of benefiting from wars and revolutions.
Youssef explained that even if he decided to remain silent, he would be blamed for his silence, and if he spoke, he would be blamed for the way he spoke.
Bassem Youssef attributed this to the growing role of social media, describing it as “soft sand.”
He pointed out that if he gets an opportunity to speak, he uses it to clarify some matters, especially since Arabs speak from a position of strength in confronting the Western narrative.
