Watan-The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education reported today (Tuesday) that 8,941 students have been killed and 14,894 others injured since the beginning of the Israeli military actions on Gaza and the West Bank on October 7.

In a statement reported by the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA), the ministry detailed that “the number of students killed in Gaza since the onset of the conflict has exceeded 8,840, with 14,389 injured. In the West Bank, 101 students have been killed and 505 injured, alongside the arrest of 357 students.”

The ministry further stated that “497 teachers and administrative staff have been killed, with 3,426 injured in both Gaza and the West Bank. Additionally, more than 111 have been arrested in the West Bank.”

The report also highlighted the extensive damage to educational infrastructure, noting that “353 government schools, universities, and university buildings, along with 65 UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) buildings in Gaza, have been bombed and damaged. Of these, 139 have been severely damaged, and 93 completely destroyed. In the West Bank, 69 schools and five universities have been raided and damaged, with 133 government schools in Gaza being used as shelters.”

The ministry emphasized that “620,000 students in Gaza remain unable to attend school since the conflict began. Most students are suffering from psychological trauma and are facing severe health challenges.”
