Watan–Polyphenols have become a buzzword in health discussions, with mounting evidence suggesting that a diet rich in these plant compounds offers numerous health benefits.
According to a recent report, these natural chemical compounds, which help plants defend against threats like insects and UV radiation, play a similar role in protecting human health when consumed. They contribute to improved heart health, enhanced metabolism, and reduced risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.
The report highlights that polyphenols may also slow signs of skin aging and help reduce waist circumference.
These compounds are abundant in dark or brightly colored fruits and vegetables such as beets, blackberries, deep-red tomatoes, and dark leafy greens. Additionally, vibrant plant compounds like polyphenols not only add rich colors and strong flavors to foods but are also present in high concentrations in extra virgin olive oil, tea, coffee, and dark chocolate.
The report also notes the vast variety of plant-based nutrients, many of which remain undiscovered, such as resveratrol found in red wine, ellagic acid in walnuts, and catechins in tea.
Experts emphasize the importance of consuming a diverse range of polyphenol-rich foods to promote overall health. Some foods, like tomatoes, offer multiple plant nutrients, including flavonoids, flavanones, and carotenoids like lycopene and beta-carotene.
