Watan-With the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation army announced the withdrawal of the Givati Brigade from the Jabalia area in the northern part of the strip after 470 days of intense fighting. According to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, the brigade’s forces left Gaza without receiving any orders to return in the near future.
This withdrawal is part of the understandings reached during the ceasefire agreement, which include redeployment and a reduction of Israeli forces’ presence in the strip. According to military sources, the withdrawal plan aligns with the implementation of all stages of the deal, with a complete withdrawal of forces from the strip expected at a later time.
The Givati Brigade, operating under the 162nd Division, was one of the central units conducting military operations in Gaza, participating in many difficult battles since the start of the war. The brigade faced significant field pressures in various locations within the strip, prompting the Israeli leadership to reassess its military strategies.
Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi stated that the army is working on implementing an enhanced defensive plan along the border with the Gaza Strip. He explained that this plan was pre-designed and will include defensive elements such as barrier walls and barbed wire, in addition to improving defensive infrastructure. The plan will also involve deploying offensive forces to secure border areas and prevent any potential infiltration from the strip.
The withdrawal of the Givati Brigade comes within the context of the ceasefire agreement, which was reached after months of negotiations. The agreement aims to de-escalate the situation in the strip and pave the way for a new phase that may witness intensive efforts for reconstruction and stabilization.
However, questions remain about the durability of this agreement, given the ongoing tensions between the two sides and the exchanged statements suggesting the potential for renewed escalation in the future.
