Watan-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks about Israel retaining the right to resume military operations in Gaza have sparked widespread controversy, as he pointed to American support for such a decision. The statements come after the implementation of a ceasefire agreement between the occupation forces and Hamas, which ended a devastating war that lasted over 15 months.
In response, Hamas, through Taher al-Nounou, the media advisor to the movement’s leader, stated that Netanyahu’s comments reflect political and electoral considerations and will not affect the course of the agreement. Al-Nounou emphasized that the agreement was reached with international guarantees, primarily from current U.S. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, as well as other international and regional mediators.
Hamas clarified that the agreement is structured in phases, with each phase sequentially leading to the next in an organized manner. The first phase involves the withdrawal of occupation forces from specific areas in Gaza according to clear timelines. The second phase, preceding the release of prisoners, stipulates the signing of a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire agreement and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.
Despite the agreement taking effect, the first day witnessed several Israeli violations, prompting Hamas to call for strict enforcement of all its terms, particularly those related to withdrawal and the release of prisoners.
Hamas described Netanyahu‘s statements as an attempt to boost morale within Israel after a prolonged war that failed to achieve its objectives. The movement affirmed that the Palestinian people and their resistance are closely monitoring every step taken by the occupation and will not allow manipulation of the ceasefire agreement.
