Exercising Before Surgery May Halve Complication Risks, Study Finds

Combining Physical Activity, a Healthy Diet, and Psychological Support Can Enhance Recovery and Reduce Risks.

Watan-A new study has confirmed that exercising before undergoing any surgical procedure could reduce the risk of complications by half.

The study indicated that combining increased physical activity with a healthy diet and psychological support could reduce the risk of complications by more than a third.

The Canadian research team analyzed data from 186 trials involving over 15,000 patients.

The researchers found that exercising before surgery reduced the risk of complications by 50%, while following a healthy diet lowered the risk by 38%.

Combining exercise, healthy eating, and psychological support was associated with a 36% reduction in risk.

Dr. Daniel McIsaac, an anesthesiologist at Ottawa Hospital and head of clinical research in surgical innovation at the University of Ottawa, who participated in the new study, said: “If you are willing and able to increase your activity levels and regularly consume healthy, protein-rich food for a few weeks before surgery, you are likely to experience a significantly shorter recovery time after the procedure.”

Faster surgical recovery tips
The study may help patients find effective ways to recover quickly after surgery.

He added: “The aim of our study is to help patients find effective ways to recover quickly after surgery.”

A study published last October noted that listening to music, regardless of its type, speeds up post-surgical recovery and reduces the need for painkillers.

The study highlighted that music has a significant effect on reducing pain and tension the day after surgery.
