Watan-Jordanian MP Yanal Freihat directed a question to Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi regarding statements he made during his participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he said there is a “need for there to be no armed militias in Gaza.”
Freihat asked Minister Safadi to clarify exactly whom he was referring to with this description, questioning: Is it appropriate for the minister to describe Palestinian organizations that participated in the most recent democratic elections and formed the Palestinian government as militias?
Freihat further inquired whether the characterizations made by Minister Safadi should be considered a condemnation of the Palestinian people’s struggle to defend their land, which contradicts international laws that recognize the right of peoples to resist their occupiers.
The MP concluded by asking whether Minister Safadi recognizes the dangers of disarming the Palestinian resistance fighters, which would allow the Israeli occupation to exercise absolute dominance over all Palestinian territories and begin implementing its expansionist plans against Jordan.
Here is the full text of the speech addressed by Freihat to the Speaker of the House of Representatives:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Your Excellency, Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Based on the provisions of Article (96) of the Constitution and pursuant to Article (123) of the Rules of Procedure of the House of Representatives, I request that the following parliamentary question be directed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates:
- Which entities did the Foreign Minister refer to as “armed organizations,” “armed militias,” or “armed groups” in Palestine during his participation in the 55th session of the World Economic Forum in Davos?
- Is it appropriate for the minister to describe Palestinian organizations that participated in the most recent democratic elections in Palestine, with the winners forming the Palestinian government, as militias, armed organizations, or armed groups?
- Do these statements not constitute interference in the internal affairs of the State of Palestine?
- Do the minister’s descriptions not represent a condemnation of the jihadist and resistance efforts carried out by all Palestinian factions and people against the Zionist occupation of their lands since the occupation of Palestine began?
- Do the minister’s statements not contradict international laws that affirm the legitimacy of resisting occupation through armed struggle?
- Why did the minister remain silent about the arming of hundreds of thousands of Zionist settlers in the occupied Palestinian territories, as part of the implementation of plans to displace the Palestinian people and resettle them in Jordan?
- Does the minister realize the dangers of disarming Palestinian resistance fighters, both for Jordan and Palestine, as this would enable the occupation to establish absolute dominance over all occupied Palestinian territories and subsequently begin implementing expansionist plans against Jordan?
With all due respect,
MP Yanal Freihat
