Watan-Massive crowds of Palestinians began returning to northern Gaza in a majestic scene that carries messages of defiance and resilience, despite the extensive destruction caused by the Israeli war over the past 15 months. The large gathering along the coastal road known as “Al-Rashid Street,” which connects the southern and northern parts of the Gaza Strip, formed a powerful display of national unity, breaking the forced displacement plan that Israel failed to impose on the Palestinians.
As the return began, Palestinians crossed through the Netzarim corridor, recently vacated by occupation forces, heading toward their destroyed homes. The Hamas movement commented on the scene, stating, “The return of our displaced people to their homes once again proves the failure of the occupation to achieve its aggressive goals of displacing our people and breaking their spirit of resilience.” They added, “The sight of the returning crowds confirms the greatness of this people and their steadfastness on their land, despite the depth of pain and tragedy.”
These developments coincided with Qatar’s announcement of an agreement between Hamas and the Israeli occupation, stipulating the release of three Israeli prisoners from Gaza before Friday in exchange for the return of displaced Palestinians from the south to the north of the Strip.
Fate played a notable role, as the return of Palestinians coincided with a proposal by former U.S. President Donald Trump, suggesting the relocation of some Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt under the pretext that Gaza is uninhabitable. However, the scene of today’s returning crowds symbolized the death of any attempts to displace Palestinians or depopulate the Strip.
Despite the destroyed homes and ongoing blockade, Palestinians once again proved that their will cannot be broken. The powerful images of the massive gatherings in Gaza sent a clear message to the entire world: This land belongs to its rightful owners, and their identity will not be erased, no matter the challenges.
