Watan-The meeting between the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, and a women’s delegation from the Syrian community in the United States marked the first public appearance of Ahmad Al-Sharaa’s wife, Latifa Al-Sharaa.
During the meeting, Ahmad Al-Sharaa described his wife as a respectable woman and a young hijabi, though not wearing a niqab, emphasizing that her attire aligns with the traditional dress of veiled women in Syria. Joking with the attendees, he said that he loves his wife very much, according to Abdulhafiz Sharaf, a member of the Syrian American Coalition for Peace and Prosperity, who shared the remarks on his Facebook account.
Al-Sharaa also addressed the number of his wives, saying: “By God, there is only one, no one else, and whatever you hear on social media is just rumors.”
He also touched on the issue of the hijab, stating that choosing to wear a hijab or a niqab is a personal freedom. He stressed the importance of respecting these personal freedoms and asserted that the state should protect public liberties without interfering in personal choices.
