Watan-Moroccan security authorities successfully thwarted a terrorist plot on Sunday that aimed to carry out a series of bombings in the country. The operation was based on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for National Territory Surveillance.
As a result of this operation, four extremist individuals were arrested, including three brothers aged between 26 and 35. They were operating from two houses in the Had Soualem area.
Security sources indicated that the suspects were linked to the terrorist organization ISIS. Authorities found bladed weapons and materials suspected of being used in the manufacture of explosives in their possession. This high-level operation followed close monitoring of the suspects’ activities, during which they were observed posting videos online in which they pledged allegiance to ISIS and vowed to carry out imminent attacks inside Morocco.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the detainees had conducted reconnaissance missions at various locations and had identified targets for large-scale bombings. However, they were arrested before executing their plan. Information suggests they intended to join ISIS training camps in the Sahel region after carrying out their attack.
The suspects have been placed under investigative custody to uncover any potential connections this cell may have with other terrorist networks, either inside or outside Morocco.
Moroccan authorities successfully foiled a terrorist plot linked to ISIS, arresting four extremists before they could execute planned bombings.
This security achievement once again highlights the effectiveness of Moroccan security agencies in combating terrorism. In recent years, Morocco has successfully dismantled numerous terrorist cells before they could carry out their attacks. While the country has not experienced major terrorist incidents in the past decade, authorities view terrorist groups operating in the neighboring Sahel region as one of the most significant threats to national security.
Amid ongoing terrorist threats, Rabat continues to strengthen its security strategies by intensifying surveillance and tracking operations and maintaining close coordination between national and international intelligence agencies to ensure the country’s security and stability and prevent any attempts to undermine public safety.
