Watan-The Tunisian security authorities have announced the arrest of a famous rap singer as part of a campaign against gangs involved in drug trafficking.
The General Directorate of the National Guard stated that intelligence services successfully apprehended the singer on Wednesday, following the dismantling of a drug-dealing network in the Ibn Khaldoun neighborhood, west of the capital.
It explained that after deepening the investigation and research, the main figure in the network was identified, and it turned out to be a well-known rap singer.
Local media reported that the judiciary issued a detention order against the singer Samah Al-Riyahi, known by the stage name “Samara.”
The National Guard’s administration stated that his arrest followed “close monitoring and tracking of his movements, leading to his capture along with one of his relatives.”
According to the same source, the arrest operation led to the seizure of drugs, luxury cars, large motorcycles, and significant sums of money.
Tunisian security authorities have been conducting large-scale campaigns across several provinces to combat the growing drug trade in popular neighborhoods and around educational institutions.
The spokesperson for the General Directorate of the National Guard, Houssameddine Al-Jabali, stated that security forces arrested approximately 5,000 drug dealers in 2024, compared to 3,165 in 2023.
The proportion of detainees in drug-related cases in Tunisia’s overcrowded prisons is estimated to be about one-third of the total number of inmates.
