Netanyahu’s Unconventional Flight to Washington Amid ICC Arrest Warrant

Israeli Prime Minister Navigates Diplomatic Challenges and Legal Pressures in U.S. Visit.

Watan-The Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plane took an unusual route to reach Washington, D.C., to avoid the airspaces of countries that have announced the execution of an arrest warrant against him.

Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Sunday evening. He is scheduled to hold separate meetings with President Donald Trump and his special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, amid anticipation regarding the outcome of the second round of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.

Trump and Netanyahu will meet tomorrow at the White House. Before departing Tel Aviv, Netanyahu stated that he would hold a very important meeting with the American president, as he put it.

Netanyahu revealed that this meeting would address issues such as what he called the victory over Hamas, the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza, and dealing with what he termed the Iranian terror axis.

This is Netanyahu’s first foreign visit after an arrest warrant was issued against him and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant by the International Criminal Court on November 21, 2024, on charges of “committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.”

With American support, Israel committed genocide in Gaza between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, resulting in more than 159,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and over 14,000 missing persons.
