Israel to Send Delegation to Doha for Ceasefire Talks Amid Ongoing Gaza Truce
Trump and Netanyahu meet in Washington amid ongoing negotiations, while Israel delays humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Watan-The Gaza ceasefire agreement has entered its 17th day amid anticipation of the outcome of the highly anticipated summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Tuesday. The meeting is seen as a pivotal moment in determining whether the ceasefire agreement will progress to its second phase.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced on Tuesday that Israel is preparing to “send a professional-level delegation to Doha at the end of the week to discuss the technical details related to the continued implementation of the agreement” in Gaza. This follows a meeting between Netanyahu, U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
On Monday, Trump stated that there were no guarantees that the ceasefire in Gaza would hold, while his special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said the agreement remains intact for now. Simultaneously, Israel’s public broadcaster quoted sources saying that both Trump and his envoy Witkoff are determined to finalize an agreement for the release of Israeli detainees in Gaza before the war ends.
Two senior Hamas sources told Agence France-Presse on Monday that the movement is ready to start the second round of negotiations with Israel. A senior Hamas official, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated, “The negotiations for the second phase are scheduled to begin today… Hamas has informed the mediators, during ongoing communications and meetings held with Egyptian mediators last week in Cairo, that we are ready to begin the second round of negotiations.”
In Gaza, the Israeli occupation continues to stall the entry of shelter supplies and fuel into the Strip, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis, particularly in the north, according to the government media office.
