Watan-The Hebrew Walla news website quoted American and Israeli sources as saying that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented his plan to continue implementing the prisoner exchange deal with the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas during his visit to Washington. He proposed “extending the first phase of the agreement.”
An Israeli official stated that “If Hamas does not agree to refrain from controlling Gaza, Israel will not withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor.”
According to the sources, Netanyahu conditioned Israel’s withdrawal from the Salah al-Din (Philadelphi) Corridor and the release of Palestinian prisoners—whom Israel had previously refused to release—on Hamas relinquishing governance and control over Gaza and the departure of senior Hamas leaders from the Strip.
Netanyahu’s Proposal to Trump: Attack on Iran Before Prisoner Deal Completion
Israeli media reported that Netanyahu had prepared a proposal to present to former U.S. President Donald Trump during their meeting, aimed at reordering Middle East priorities and pushing for an attack on Iran before completing the prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, who spoke to Israel’s Channel 12, Netanyahu planned to request Trump’s approval for a strike on Iran first, followed by steps leading to a normalization agreement with Saudi Arabia, and only after that, completing the second phase of the prisoner deal.
Netanyahu’s proposal, according to Channel 12, would delay the second phase of the agreement by several months, thereby putting the lives of the Israeli captives still held by Hamas at greater risk. The sources indicated that Netanyahu has been making significant efforts to convince the U.S. president of this strategy.
Before departing for Washington on Sunday, Netanyahu stated:”We can expand the circle of peace. The fact that this is Trump’s first meeting with a foreign leader holds great significance. It highlights the strength of our alliance and relationship, the same relationship that brought about the Abraham Accords, led by President Trump.”
Israeli Security Minister Orders Plan for Gaza Deportation
On Thursday, Israeli Security Minister Yisrael Katz announced that he had instructed the Israeli military to prepare a plan for the mass displacement of Gaza’s population by land, sea, and air. His statement aligns with former President Trump’s alleged plan for controlling the Gaza Strip and expelling its residents, a move celebrated by Israeli officials across various political factions.
Katz stated:”I have instructed the Israeli army to prepare a plan to allow Gaza’s residents to leave the Strip voluntarily to any destination willing to receive them. I welcome President Trump’s bold plan.”
In an attempt to frame the move as humanitarian, Katz added:”The people of Gaza should have the freedom to leave and migrate, as is the norm anywhere in the world. The plan will include options for departure via land crossings, as well as special arrangements for exit by sea and air.”
