Rising Tensions Between Egypt and Israel: Military Confrontation on the Horizon?

Increased Egyptian military readiness and strategic movements in Sinai spark fears of potential conflict with Israel.

Watan-There has been increasing talk in both Israeli and Arab circles about the possibility of a military confrontation between Egypt and Israel, in light of recent developments in Sinai and the Egyptian army’s increased combat readiness.

Israeli reports have highlighted statements from Egyptian Defense Minister Abdel Meguid Saker, who called for raising the combat readiness of the Third Field Army, responsible for securing the Suez Canal, northern Sinai, and the Gaza border.

Hebrew media described this move as Egypt’s preparation for a potential war in Sinai in the event of a plan to relocate Gaza’s population to Sinai, a plan that Cairo strongly opposes.

Does Egypt Violate the Peace Agreement?

The Israeli website “bhol” published a report indicating the presence of hundreds of Egyptian tanks in the city of Al-Arish, which is considered a violation of the Egyptian-Israeli peace agreement. Under this agreement, Egypt is not allowed to deploy such heavy forces in Sinai without Israeli approval.

In the same context, the Israeli site “srugim” revealed that Egypt continues to bolster its ground forces in Sinai without obtaining prior Israeli approval. It pointed out that these movements coincide with the deterioration of relations between Cairo and Washington after U.S. President Donald Trump called for the evacuation of Gaza’s residents to Egyptian territory.

Israeli Concerns and Accusations Against Egypt

The newspaper “Israel Hayom” reported that Israeli officials are closely monitoring the military changes in Sinai, using satellite images that have revealed unprecedented shifts in the deployment of the Egyptian army.

The newspaper added that Israel’s political and security levels are following these developments cautiously, noting that Netanyahu agrees to these Egyptian moves retroactively, once Egypt has made its troop presence an irreversible fait accompli.

Is the Situation Heading Towards Military Escalation?

Despite these analyses, an informed Israeli source confirmed that there is real concern in Israeli military circles but indicated that the situation is currently more stable than before, meaning the chances of a military confrontation remain limited for now.
