Witnessing Despair in Gaza Through the Eyes of Al Jazeera Correspondent Heba Akila

Watan-Al Jazeera correspondent Heba Akila wept passionately as she recounted a facet of the Palestinian tragedy amid the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

Akila detailed the worsening humanitarian conditions for displaced and injured individuals in Gaza, highlighting the case of a woman who lost her hand but miraculously survived along with her daughter as the sole survivors from their family.

She revealed that this woman emerged from Al-Shifa Hospital with an amputated hand, cradling her daughter with the other hand. Upon reaching Khan Yunis Governorate, she was in a dire situation.

Tragic Conditions for Displaced Individuals

Heba Akila, tearfully, pointed out extremely severe injuries and tragic conditions among the displaced, emphasizing that the situation is deteriorating in indescribable ways.

Continuing through increasing emotional distress, she stated, “We are talking about thousands of martyrs, yes, but we are also talking about humanitarian cases and entire families reaching the southern Gaza Strip, carrying their injured and amputated children.”

She went on, her tears intensifying, “We witnessed situations that cannot be described. Doctors spoke of severe injuries and humanitarian conditions for families that are unbearable.”

Heba Akila emphasized that the evacuation of hospitals by the occupying forces, affecting the wounded and families of martyrs in this manner, was a tragic development.

Elderly Sacrifices Daughter to Save the Rest of His Family

He spoke of an elderly man who left his injured daughter without knowing whether she had survived or not. However, he chose to save the rest of his family, to step out, sacrificing one daughter rather than risking the lives of all his family members.

Heba Akila stated, ‘This is the humanitarian situation here in Gaza… This is how the picture has become, and this is how the entire world witnesses what is happening in Gaza.

Intense Israeli Bombardment Targets Hospitals

The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip entered its 36th day, marked by the Israeli occupation forces intensifying their shelling of hospitals. The death toll surpassed 11,000.

Israeli airstrikes, targeting all hospitals in northern Gaza, forced thousands to evacuate, turning these medical facilities into shelters.

Several casualties were reported, and injuries were recorded as a result of airstrikes on the clinics building within the Shifa Medical Complex.

Meanwhile, fierce clashes persist between Palestinian resistance forces and the occupation forces in multiple fronts and areas across the region.
