Watan-Amid escalating international and Arab pressure on Hamas to either leave the Gaza Strip or disarm, the movement’s response was decisive, blocking any attempts to exclude it from the political and military scene.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the start of the second-phase talks of the Gaza agreement next week, but he set two main conditions: the disarmament of the resistance and the removal of Hamas from Gaza.
However, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem quickly responded, saying: “The occupation’s condition of removing Hamas from the Strip is a ridiculous psychological war. The departure of the resistance or its disarmament from Gaza is unacceptable.”
Palestinian resistance
Israel is trying to impose a new equation at the negotiation table by pressuring Hamas to relinquish its rule over Gaza. However, the movement responded by affirming that it is politically and militarily prepared to implement both the second and third phases of the agreement, following a path that ensures a permanent end to the war and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Strip.
Hebrew reports not only highlighted Netanyahu’s demands but also revealed that Arab countries, including the UAE and Egypt, are pressuring Hamas to exit the political and military scene in Gaza.
Yet, Hamas’ firm response reaffirmed that it will not bow to these pressures and will continue governing the Strip while holding onto its weapons as a guarantee against the imposition of political solutions that do not serve the Palestinian cause.
Hamas disarmament rejection
As negotiations continue and international parties seek a political settlement, the key question remains: Can Netanyahu and the “Arab Zionists” impose a new reality in Gaza, or will Hamas’ unwavering stance force everyone to accept the resistance’s terms?
