Hamas Pledges Cooperation on Efforts to Prevent Palestinian Displacement at Arab Summit
In a message to the upcoming Arab Summit in Cairo, Hamas expresses willingness to cooperate on initiatives opposing forced displacement and calls for Palestinian-led reconstruction efforts.
Watan-Hamas affirmed on Saturday its readiness to cooperate with any initiative aimed at countering attempts to displace Palestinians and rebuilding Gaza without compromising Palestinian rights. The movement also emphasized the need to complete all stages of the ceasefire agreement and ensure Israel’s withdrawal from the Strip.
This came in a statement issued by Hamas’ Chairman of the Leadership Council, Mohammed Darwish, in a message addressed to the upcoming Arab Summit in Cairo.
Cairo is set to host an emergency Arab summit next Tuesday, aiming to “formulate a strong Arab stance on the Palestinian cause and present a unified Arab proposal in response to the U.S. plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza.”
Hamas Affirms Readiness to Resist Displacement and Rebuild Gaza
Darwish stated, “We are ready to cooperate with any initiative that seeks to resist attempts to displace our people from Gaza and rebuild the Strip without compromising Palestinian rights, especially our people’s legitimate right to resist the occupation.”
He added that Hamas is prepared to “achieve a just solution to our Palestinian cause, ensuring the right to self-determination, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty and Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of refugees to their cities and villages from which they were expelled since the Nakba.”
He continued, “We are committed to completing all stages of the ceasefire agreement, leading to a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, the full withdrawal of occupation forces from Gaza, reconstruction, and the lifting of the blockade.”
Darwish stressed that “the day after the war must be purely Palestinian, based on national consensus and supported by our Arab brothers.”
He noted that Hamas “has expressed readiness to engage with any option agreed upon by the Palestinians, whether through forming a national unity government composed of technocrats and Palestinian professionals or implementing the Community Support Committee proposed by Egypt to manage Gaza’s affairs under the existing Palestinian legal framework.”
Darwish firmly rejected “any attempt to impose external projects or non-Palestinian administrative structures, as well as any presence of foreign forces on Gaza’s territory.”
He reaffirmed Hamas’ “commitment to restructuring the Palestinian political framework, particularly the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), on the basis of full partnership so it can truly represent all Palestinians.” He also called for “holding general elections at all levels to restore democratic life and allow our people to freely choose their leadership and determine their political future.”
In his message, Darwish expressed appreciation for “the unified Arab stance rejecting the displacement of our Palestinian people, particularly the positions of Egypt and Jordan.”
He stated that “this oppressive scheme and other projects aimed at displacing our people, annexing the West Bank, expanding settlements, and controlling Al-Aqsa Mosque are not just crimes against Palestinians but crimes against humanity.”
He added that “priority in confronting this plan includes providing urgent relief to our afflicted people and taking all necessary measures to force the occupation to comply with the ceasefire agreement in all its terms and stages, as well as implementing the humanitarian protocol.”
Darwish called on Arab nations to “actively participate in the reconstruction and rebuilding of Gaza, as this is the most crucial step in strengthening our people’s resilience and ensuring they remain in their homeland, preventing the occupation’s displacement plans or any attempts to depopulate Palestinian land and enable further Israeli control.”
