Raghad Saddam Hussein Slams U.S.-UK Invasion on 22nd Anniversary, Vows Political Return

Marking 22 years since the Iraq invasion, Saddam Hussein’s daughter condemns the occupation, praises resistance fighters, and declares her intent to re-enter politics to restore Iraq’s unity.

Watan-Raghad Saddam Hussein, daughter of the late Iraqi president, posted a tweet on the X platform marking the 22nd anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, in which she strongly criticized the American and British occupation of her country.

In her tweet, Raghad wrote:”On this day in 2003, the forces of evil and darkness—led by the lying criminals ‘Little Bush’ and ‘Despicable Blair’—rained down their hateful weapons on Baghdad, the city of imams and scholars, under the pretext of searching for weapons of mass destruction, the lie they used to occupy Iraq.”

She accused a “treacherous faction” of collaborating with the occupying forces, saying this “crime” led to the “dissolution of the Iraqi army, destruction of infrastructure, displacement of entire communities along with their intellectuals and scholars, and the looting of the country in what could be called the theft of the century.”

She also noted that the occupation “divided Iraqi society into sects and fabricated identities we had never heard of before, based on interests and pettiness, all to weaken the land of the two rivers, to please Iran at times, and other occupying forces at other times.”

Raghad extended a “salute of pride, honor, appreciation, and respect to every fighter who rejected the occupation and its wicked schemes,” and prayed for mercy upon “the martyrs of Iraq who gave their all in defense of the homeland and the unity of its people.”

She concluded her tweet by reaffirming her intention to return to political life, stating:
“Every day, my determination grows stronger to move forward in serving my country from a political position worthy of me, my father’s legacy, and that of my brothers. Iraq will soon shake off the dust of wars and occupation, and we will all work to restore its glory and strength—with its army, security forces, and steadfast, resilient people.”
