Gaza Death Toll Surpasses 50,000 as Israeli War Resumes After Ceasefire Collapse
Children and women make up the majority of victims in Israel’s renewed military offensive on the Gaza Strip, with thousands still missing and humanitarian aid blocked.
Wtan-The death toll from the genocide war waged by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has surpassed 50,000 martyrs, the majority of whom are children and women, while thousands remain missing.
In the latest statistics released by the Gaza Ministry of Health on Sunday, it reported that hospitals in the Strip received 41 martyrs and 61 injuries in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of martyrs and injuries since March 18, 2025, to 673 martyrs and 1,233 injured, as the occupation resumed its genocidal campaign after breaching the ceasefire agreement. The ministry added that the total death toll from the Israeli aggression has risen to 50,021 martyrs and 113,274 injured.
During the genocide, the Israeli occupation committed hundreds of massacres against civilians in the besieged Strip, which has been under continuous blockade for more than 17 years. This resulted in dozens and even hundreds of martyrs daily throughout the ongoing war.
Israel Bombs “Safe Zones” as Gaza War Resumes
The Israeli occupation army specifically targeted gatherings of displaced people, which were concentrated in hospitals and schools, as well as areas that were declared “safe” and later bombed, leading to large numbers of casualties among those fleeing the horrors of airstrikes.
The majority of the martyrs fell during airstrikes in which Israel – with decisive American support – used tens of thousands of tons of explosives throughout the genocide war. These strikes targeted refugee shelters and civilian homes densely packed with relatives who had taken refuge together.
On January 19, widespread joy swept across the Gaza Strip after a ceasefire agreement—brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States—came into effect. The agreement was supposed to be implemented in three phases, eventually leading to a permanent end to the genocide war.
Israel Breaks Ceasefire, Renews Attacks on Gaza
However, the Israeli occupation reneged on the agreement after the first phase ended. In the early hours of last Tuesday, Israel announced the resumption of the war, launching hundreds of intense air raids on the Strip, resulting in the deaths of more than 400 martyrs within just a few hours, including around 200 children.
The resumption of the war shocked residents who had, during the ceasefire period, been attempting to restore even the most basic aspects of normal life. These efforts were severely hindered not only by widespread destruction but also by the cessation of humanitarian aid in recent weeks, as the occupation closed border crossings and blocked assistance from entering Gaza immediately after the first phase ended.
In addition to the airstrikes, the Israeli occupation army resumed ground incursions into areas it had previously withdrawn from under the agreement. In recent days, the occupation ordered residents of several areas to evacuate, the latest being the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood in Rafah, southern Gaza, on Sunday.
