Hamas Responds to Protests, Says Anti-Resistance Chants Were Spontaneous

Hamas attributes protest slogans to public pressure and Israeli incitement, urging unity and focus on resisting the occupation amid ongoing aggression.

Watan-The media office of the Hamas movement in Gaza confirmed on Wednesday that the anti-Hamas slogans raised during protests on Tuesday were “spontaneous” and do not represent the general national stance.

A statement issued by the office clarified that: “The slogans and positions expressed by some protesters against the path of resistance do not reflect the will of the Palestinian people as a whole. Rather, they were a result of the immense pressure our people are under, in addition to the ongoing attempts by the occupation to stir internal discord and divert attention from its continuous crimes.”

The statement added that Palestinians’ right to express their views and participate in peaceful protests is legitimate and part of the national values that Hamas defends. It noted that Tuesday’s protests occurred

“within the context of immense pressure and the daily massacres being inflicted on the Palestinian people.”

The office stated that the continued Israeli aggression and targeting of civilians may lead to public anger, describing it as a natural reaction under the circumstances of ongoing crimes. It called for national unity and the redirection of efforts toward confronting the occupation and its plans.
