Tribal Council in Gaza Denounces Fabricated Anti-Hamas Protest Claims by Egyptian Media

The Council of Families and Tribes accuses Cairo News Channel of spreading false reports to undermine resistance and sow division amid Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.

Watan-Amid the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and continued efforts to politically and media-wise suffocate the Palestinian resistance, Egypt’s Cairo News Channel has sparked widespread controversy by promoting alleged calls for demonstrations against Hamas in Gaza. The channel, known to be close to Egyptian intelligence, attributed these calls to the “Council of Families and Tribes in the Southern Provinces”—a claim the council has completely and angrily denied in an official statement.

The Council of Families and Tribes asserted that the Egyptian media’s claims were entirely baseless, emphasizing that the tribes’ position remains firmly in support of armed resistance and completely rejects any attempts to distort or sow internal division—especially at a time when Israel is committing genocide in Gaza for more than a year.

In its statement, the council stressed that the parties behind such propaganda are clearly working to weaken Gaza’s internal front and pave the way for the return of the Palestinian Authority through political takeover, backed by clear Arab media support for agendas aligned with the goals of the occupation.

Gaza Tribes Reject PA and Media Fabrications, Vow Legal Action

The council also announced that it would pursue legal action against Cairo News Channel on charges of “incitement, spreading lies, and fabricating statements,” and called on journalists and activists to refer to original sources and uphold professional standards.

Notably, the Palestinian Authority attempted to exploit the fabricated narrative to reassert itself in Gaza. Its “Supreme Committee for Tribal Affairs” issued a sympathetic statement, which was quickly met with fierce criticism from the independent tribal body, which accused the Authority of “trading on the blood of the martyrs.”

According to Haj Abu Salman Al-Mughni, head of the Supreme Tribal Council in Gaza, the Authority has done nothing for Gaza since the beginning of the aggression and has no legitimacy to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people. He stated, “In 15 months of war, all we’ve seen from them is silence and betrayal.”

The tribes’ statements were decisive in affirming internal unity and in thwarting the media and political campaign aimed at the resistance—at a critical moment when conspiracies from both internal and external actors are intensifying.
