Report: Majority of U.S. Deportation Targets Are Christian

New data urges American Christians to reconsider the impact of harsh immigration policies, with millions of fellow believers at risk of removal.

Watan-A new report has revealed that up to four out of every five migrants facing deportation from the United States are Christians, urging members of the faith to reflect on the impact of the strict deportation policies pursued by President Donald Trump’s administration.

According to the report, approximately 10 million Christians are at risk of deportation, while 7 million American Christian citizens live in households with individuals who face the threat of deportation.

The report was issued under the sponsorship of major Catholic and Evangelical organizations and is based on a range of data, including religious affiliation among migrants and different nationalities, as well as analysis of U.S. Census data compiled by a pro-immigrant advocacy group.

Matthew Soerens, Vice President of Advocacy and Policy at the Evangelical humanitarian organization World Relief, which co-authored the report, stated:“While we are deeply concerned for our fellow Christians, our concern is not limited to migrants who share our faith.”

In a recorded statement, Soerens added:“As Christians, we believe that all people—regardless of their religion or nationality—are made in the image of God and possess inherent dignity.”

However, he noted that many Christians in the U.S. may be unaware that the vast majority of those facing deportation actually share their faith.
