Watan-About 65% of the Gaza Strip is now classified by the Israeli army as areas either designated as “buffer zones,” according to its claims, or placed under evacuation warnings, according to a UN report.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated in the report:
“Since March 18, the Israeli army has issued 13 evacuation orders, placing approximately 126.6 square kilometers — or 35% of the Gaza Strip — under active evacuation orders.”
It added:“In addition to this area, Israeli authorities have requested the UN to coordinate movement in the restricted zone along the Gaza Strip and through the Wadi Gaza area (the Netzarim Corridor), which is controlled by Israel and runs between southern and northern Gaza.”
The report continued:“These areas together make up 65% of the Gaza Strip.”
The report covers developments up until last Friday. Since then, further evacuation orders have been issued for additional Palestinian residential areas.
Until March 18 — when Israel unilaterally withdrew from a ceasefire agreement — the “buffer zones” enforced by the Israeli army encompassed about 17% of Gaza’s total area.
