Palestinian Administrative Detainee Loses Lower-Body Mobility After Severe Torture
The Palestinian Prisoners Club reports 19-year-old Mohammed Abu Al-Ezz can no longer move his legs after repeated beatings in Negev Desert Prison.
Watan-The Palestinian Prisoners Club stated on Wednesday that an administrative detainee in Israeli prisons has lost the ability to move the lower part of his body due to severe torture and repeated beatings.
The club (Ahli) said in a statement that “Mohammed Nassim Abu Al-Ezz (19), from Jericho, detained since February last year, was subjected to repeated torture and brutal beatings in Negev Desert Prison, which resulted in his loss of mobility.”
It noted that Abu Al-Ezz suffered a rapid deterioration in his health over the past period due to ongoing abuse until his condition worsened to the point that he could no longer care for himself, necessitating his transfer to a hospital.
Surgical Intervention Exposes Systematic Torture and Rising Prisoner Deaths
The Prisoners Club reported that a delicate surgical operation was performed on Abu Al-Ezz’s back at Soroka Hospital. He was later moved to the Ramla prison clinic, where he now suffers from a lower-body disability.
They emphasized that “Abu Al-Ezz had no prior health issues before his arrest and today represents a new victim of the systematic torture crimes inflicted on prisoners in Israeli jails and detention camps, carried out by the Israeli prison system through continuous, methodical procedures and tools.”
The statement added, “Torture crimes have been the main cause of death for dozens of prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails and camps since the onset of the genocide.”
At least 73 detainees have died in Israeli prisons since the start of the Gaza genocide, and 310 since 1967.
Mass Detentions and Widespread Violence Against Palestinians
Israel currently holds over 10,400 Palestinian prisoners, including 47 women, more than 440 children, 3,562 administrative detainees, and 2,214 Gazans classified as “unlawful combatants.”
These prisoners endure torture, starvation, and medical neglect, resulting in many deaths, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
Concurrently with the genocide in Gaza, the Israeli army and settlers have escalated attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, causing at least 988 Palestinian deaths and around 7,000 injuries, Palestinian sources report.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel—backed unconditionally by the U.S.—has conducted a genocidal campaign in Gaza, killing or wounding roughly 191,000 Palestinians (mostly women and children), leaving over 11,000 missing and displacing hundreds of thousands.
