Watan-The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday that the upcoming talks with the United States, scheduled for the end of next week, will remain “indirect” with Omani mediation, and will focus exclusively on the nuclear file and lifting sanctions.
Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bagheri said in an interview with state television, “The negotiations will remain indirect. Oman will remain the mediator, but we are discussing the location of the next talks.”
He emphasized that the talks will focus only on the “nuclear file and lifting sanctions.”
Another round of talks between Washington and Tehran will take place on Saturday, April 19.
On Saturday, the United States and Iran held “constructive” discussions on Iran’s nuclear program and agreed to schedule another meeting.
Iran reported that Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi mediated the high-level talks in Muscat.
The Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, a seasoned diplomat and one of the architects of the 2015 nuclear deal, while Steve Biegun, the U.S. special envoy appointed by President Donald Trump, a real estate magnate, led the American delegation. The two men met face to face for a brief period.
These talks represent the highest-level discussions on this issue since Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the major powers during his first term in 2018, in exchange for lifting sanctions.
