Watan-The Jordanian Islamic Action Front Party, the political wing of the “Muslim Brotherhood,” announced on Tuesday that Jordanian security forces arrested Khaled Walid Al-Juhani, the head of the Islamic Action Front Bloc in the Jordanian Parliament, late on Monday night. The party did not clarify the reasons for the arrest.
According to the Ahrar Human Rights Platform, this is the third time Khaled Al-Juhani has been arrested in the past two years. The first arrest took place in January 2024, following his participation in activities condemning the aggression on Gaza. The second arrest occurred in July 2024, on charges of cybercrimes, just before his candidacy in the elections. He was arrested alongside his brother Hamza, and both were tried.
The Islamic Action Front is an opposition party in Jordan, founded in 1992. In the Jordanian parliamentary elections held on September 10th last year, the party secured 31 seats out of the 138 in the House of Representatives, with 17 of those seats from party lists and 14 from local lists as independents. This marks a historic achievement for the party, the first of its kind in over three decades, in an election overshadowed by the war on Gaza.
