Watan-The Algerian state-owned energy company Sonatrach announced the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with its U.S.-based partner Occidental Petroleum Corporation, aimed at enhancing and expanding their cooperation by exploring new partnership opportunities in the field of hydrocarbon exploration and production in Algeria.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Sonatrach stated that the MoUs were signed on the sidelines of the 2025 Algeria-U.S. Energy Forum.
The first memorandum of understanding outlines a framework for discussions related to exploring the potential for cooperation in the development of carbonate reservoirs.
The second memorandum focuses on the application of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies, with the goal of maximizing production and improving final recovery rates.
It is worth noting that Sonatrach and Occidental Petroleum, along with two other partners, are jointly operating the Berkine contractual perimeter in southern Algeria under a hydrocarbons contract signed on July 19, 2022.
