Watan-The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement Thursday evening responding to recent reports suggesting that Israeli plans to attack Iranian nuclear sites—coordinated with the United States—were canceled by former U.S. President Donald Trump in favor of diplomatic engagement with Tehran.
In the statement, Netanyahu’s office emphasized his long-standing leadership in the global campaign against Iran’s nuclear ambitions:
“The Prime Minister has led this struggle for over a decade, even when others underestimated the threat and accused him of political maneuvering or paranoia.”

The office highlighted that Netanyahu directed numerous overt and covert operations aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear capabilities, claiming that it is precisely because of these efforts that Iran does not currently possess a nuclear arsenal.
“These actions delayed Iran’s nuclear program by almost ten years, thanks to the Prime Minister’s determination in the face of considerable internal and external opposition to his tough stance on Iran,” the statement read.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Netanyahu’s consistent position:“As the Prime Minister has made clear many times—Israel will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.”

It is understood that in recent years, Israel prepared plans for a potential strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, aiming to severely hinder Iran’s ability to produce a nuclear weapon. However, such operations would require significant coordination with the United States—both for defense against possible Iranian retaliation and to ensure strategic success.
During Trump’s presidency, internal debates reportedly took place in Washington over whether to pursue a military option or continue pushing for diplomatic negotiations with Iran. This division reflected contrasting views among Trump’s advisors—some advocating for military pressure, others believing a strike would fall short of fully dismantling Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
Ultimately, the strike plans were put on hold, with diplomatic avenues prioritized. However, Israel’s leadership continues to maintain that all options remain on the table to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear-armed state.
